X&Y was created to capture a new expression of Margaret River and celebrate what the younger generation loves about the region – the culture, art, surf and great wineries.
With its rugged coastal scenery, renowned food and wine culture and expanse of world class surf beaches, Margaret River has grown from a small, sleepy regional environment into one of Australia’s most popular wine destinations.
The Wine Makers
Matt Byrne has been fascinated by wine since he was a youngster, sparked by his dad’s penchant for a fine cask red or white at the dinner table. Thanks to Matt’s chosen career which now spans more than 12 years in the wine industry, the family drinking habits have since become more sophisticated.
"I’ve always wanted to create my own wine brand, but the catalyst for X&Y was to capture everything that Margaret River stands for – the beach, surf and summer – and bottle it."
A keen cook in his spare time, Matt also wanted to create wines that paired well with the simple, fresh cuisine of the Australian summer.
Dave Longden is a self-confessed outdoors man, Dave cites fishing, camping, gardening and sport of any kind amongst his list of passions. He’s also a keen guitar player and fronts local Margaret River rock band Big Crop in his spare time.
Dave wanted to make wines that were the perfect match to a summer barbeque and the X&Y Cabernet Merlot and Shiraz are right on the money.
"Summer and Margaret River were the inspiration for X&Y but we also wanted to showcase the reds that have made the region famous."
